Flea Market and Moving

Well, Sunday was moving day. We drove the 8.5 hours from Athens, GA to Slidell, LA. It was quite a trip. It actually may have been a little shorter if we had not had to stop several times for me to pee. Oops. The drive itself was, thankfully, uneventful. It did rain a bit on the way down but thanks to our awesome tarping skills the boxes only got slightly damp. And if you can believe it, everything I (now) own fit into the bed/cab of the pick-up truck and in my Corolla! That's a far cry from the amount of stuff I moved to Georgia with. And that's mainly thanks to selling/donating all my furniture and...the trip to the flea market! I know, everyone has been anxiously awaiting details, so here they are!

We got to the J&J Flea Market at around 7:30am. Now, the website had said that people get there to set up at around 6am. Yeah, right, not happening. We needed to pack the truck and get coffee before heading down there. So anyway, we had no sooner backed up to our table when the locusts descended. Now, to be clear, I'm not comparing the people at the flea market to locusts per se, just the manner in which they descended on the table. Which, might I add, I am hugely grateful for because their...enthusiasm...helped me get rid of tons of stuff and make...ahem, $279! And we even left by about 1pm. Needless to say, it was a huge success. :)

After we had sold our own wares, we ventured out to see what else was being sold. But even though  the flea market is technically open until 5pm, most everyone packs up by about 1pm or 2pm. So there wasn't too much for us to see. The only interesting animals around were chickens, no goats or adorable puppies this time. Although there was a woman selling a bunch of old spoons. Anyway, the point is, it was a huge success!

Soon to come, tales of living at home. :)

It's Almost Time

Tomorrow is my last day of work. On Sunday Mom and I will be driving South with a truck and car loaded up with all my crap. Although, much less crap than I had before! :) Sometimes I feel bad saying this, but I'm very excited. I can't wait to start this next phase in my life. There are people and things I will miss about Athens but I'm so happy I made this decision. Ok, enough with the mushy stuff. ;)

This Saturday Mom and I will brave the flea market I once told you about. But this time I will not be a spectator. This time, I will be a part of the circus. I don't have any goats to sell but hopefully I have some other crap that is another man's treasure. Stay tuned for details. Oh, and before I forget...

It Had to Happen Eventually

Here we go again. Calamity, near disaster. I attract it like shit on velcro, it's a gift. On Saturday I slept in, did some packing, then went and helped out at a track meet. After the track meet, I headed home to keep packing and to wait for someone to come pick up the dresser they were supposed to buy. They never showed. :( Oh well. So I just kept on working. Around 8 I decided I was hungry but didn't feel like going out or spending the money to eat out. So as I'm packing and cleaning in the kitchen I throw some water on to boil for mac and cheese, fancy I know. I went back to my room and got distracted for a minute. Oops. As I'm walking back to the kitchen I think I smell something cooking. Weird, I hadn't put anything in the pot yet. No wait, that smell is something burning! I quickly realized that it was coming from a baking pan I had left of the stove that also had two plates and a wood/plastic spatula in it. Guess who turned on the wrong burner and nearly set the kitchen on fire? Yep. Me. It's ok though, I rescued it and turned off the burner before any actual flames started. Here's a picture of the damage. Pretty minimal considering what could have been.

So there you have it, my latest mishap. All I have to do is keep the flames to a minimum for one more week. :)

Speaking of, here's a countdown update...

My Birthday!: tomorrow!

Clutter = Wasted $$$

It's true...and it sucks. I've been legitimately sifting through my heaps of stuff this time around rather than just packing every last little thing (which by the way is expensive and time consuming and a pain in the ass). And I've decided to get serious about decluttering my life once and for all. It's been a mostly positive process but every once in a while I stumble across some stuff that really irritates me.

For example, I was cleaning out the hall closet and found an entire small Uhaul box of beauty products and cosmetics. The stuff in there was between 1 and 4 years old. There was over $100 worth of stuff (that is now old and gross and therefore useless) in that box! I was so mad at myself for letting all that perfectly good (at one point in its life) stuff go to waste. And by the way, why did I have 4 year old lotion anyway!? Grrr. I also found approximately 800 q-tips (literally, two 400 count packages). Seriously? Then while in the kitchen, I noticed that I have two cans of italian bread crumbs...I don't cook, why is this in my kitchen!!! Ok, I'll stop yelling. I'm just frustrated. My point is this, the more cluttered your house, the more you duplicate purchases because you can't find, or don't want to dig though the mess to find, something that you may already have. Ergo, money wasted. :(

The solution? An uncluttered life. So that's my goal. I'm decluttering and will do my damndest to stay that way.

Sigh.

That was my sigh of relief in case you couldn't tell. For better or worse I'm finished with this semester's exams. Now all I have to do is finish packing, instill as much knowledge as possible on my replacement within one week, and hit the road. There's still a lot of packing to be done but thankfully my furniture is quickly disappearing...and almost all of it in exchange for mula! I've packed most of my clothes, my DVDs, purses, shoes, and other various items. One room I have done virtually no work on is the kitchen! It's not that I do a whole lot in there, I'm not a very skilled cook and my meals are pretty minimalist, but for some reason I've been avoiding it. But that needs to change right now because I'm planning on giving away some kitchen stuff tomorrow.

In the spirit of motivation, I took a packing progress picture Tuesday and then again today...I thought there was a big difference. Well, there has been improvement but not much...this is like one of those games "can you tell what's different"...haha. Well, anyway, here are the pictures.

Can't tell the difference? It's ok, I had to look pretty hard. Stay tuned for more...I promise it will get more organized soon. It better, I'm moving in 10 days. Which reminds me...countdown update...

My birthday!: 4 days

Mama coming to Athens: 8 days

Leaving Athens: 10 days

Trip to Ohio: 14 days.

Countdown Queen

I love countdowns. It helps me get a more tangible grip on upcoming events. I also find it very helpful in getting through difficult times. So...here are my current countdowns, designed to help get me through the next couple weeks...

My birthday!: 7 days

Mama coming to Athens: 11 days

Leaving Athens: 13 days

Trip to Ohio: 17 days

That's all for now. Four countdowns is a lot but I have a lot to do in the next couple weeks and just need to keep focusing on all the good stuff that is coming up soon. :)

The Weekend

So, I meant to be a lot more productive that I actually was this weekend. Well, let's rephrase. I intended to get a lot more done on the packing side of things.

On Saturday I did, however, pack up my shoes, cosmetics, undergarments, and swimsuits. Now, you may be asking yourself why I am "packing" these things when I'm not moving for 2 weeks. For some of my more frequently used items, I'm going ahead and putting them in suitcases and such so that when it's time to go, I just zip up the bags and throw those things in the car. Also, I sold my large dresser! Now that I've sold the majority of my furniture, I'm donating the rest to a local long-term D&A rehab house. Also yesterday, I bought a dress for a fancy pants dinner Manny and I are going to in May. I really didn't have to buy a dress right away, as it's 3 weeks away and I still have to move and everything but I am so excited to get all dressed up I just couldn't help myself! So...here it is.

Today I did some laundry, then went for a run, and the went to the end of the year sports medicine banquet. A pretty decent Sunday. :) However, running at 2pm on a sunny day in May in Georgia was not one of my brighter ideas. I looked like a beet when I got home. And not from sun exposure! When I get overheated my face gets really red. No seriously, it's actually kind of embarrassing. People look at me like they expect me to collapse at any moment. Oh well.

And all the while, in the midst of my slaving away at laundry and packing and dress buying...this is what Jack was doing...
