Unpacking and Settling In...

For the past week or so I have had one goal...unpacking and settling in. I am not even close to unpacked. I'm a little closer to being settled in. I still have about 6 boxes left to unpack, and some clothes to put away. Actually, when you put in that way...it doesn't sound so bad. Anyway, settling in is happening a little more quickly. Yesterday was the 1st day at my new job. :) Monday and Tuesday were more just orientation type stuff, but I really like meeting everyone. Also, tomorrow is my first full day out at my high school! I have two athletic training rooms out there! Nuts, huh?! Very cool, but they're both really disorganized and rather dirty. Soooo, tomorrow will be a day full of cleaning and organizing. Good thing the Athletic Department secretary said I can use her label maker. ;)

Moving Across the Country When You Have No $$$

Ok, maybe I'm being a little dramatic. I have some money. But even some money seems like very little when you are facing the prospect of a cross country move and don't have an income. (That's soon to change...my job starts Monday!) I spent most of the summer fretting about how to get all of my belongings from Louisiana to Ohio. The single best thing I did was to sell all of my furniture before moving to Ohio. Manny already had a house full of furniture, and none of mine was any nicer so off it went to new homes (for a price of course). The other good move I made was selling a bunch of excess junk at a local flea market before I left Georgia. So there, before I even moved my stuff to Louisiana, I was rid of excess. However, it took my mother's Nissan Titan and my Corolla to bring the stuff that I still had. So I began to get nervous as I did not want to rent an expensive U-Haul truck that would not even come close to being filled by my stuff. I think U-Haul is a great idea if you are going to fill the truck because at that point it's worth the money. However, what I did was pack as much stuff as possible in my Corolla and then planned to ship whatever was left via UPS. It seems silly but with the small amount of stuff I had, it was by far the most cost effective option. Oh, and I did send $60 (insurance included) worth of book via post office media mail the week before I left. One box is still in transit so cross your fingers that it gets here.

However, there's one small thing to remember. The physical act of moving from place to place is not the only part that sucks money. I actually only spent about $120 on food and gas on the drive. But then there's trying to get comfortable in your new place. I thought that since I was moving in with my boyfriend and the house was already pretty set up, I would have to worry about those usual "new house" expenses. But I've already spent $60 on stuff to organize my closet. Apparently there's no way to get out totally scot free. :) All in all though, I think I did a pretty good job of packing my car for all it was worth.  ...if I do say so myself. :)

The Accidental Occasional Blogger

Apparently I'm becoming one of those "occasional bloggers"...which was never my intention. Life just seems to keep getting in the way. Since I'm not in school at the moment, I really should be able to find plenty of time to blog. What keeps getting in the way, you ask? Horseback riding, job interviews, getting the job, moving to Ohio, unpacking/cleaning now that I'm in Ohio...the list could go on and on. I also am so frustrated with this "occasional blogger" habit that I've seemed to slip into, it's all that I blog about...which can get boring and repetitive.  So I'm going to give it yet another go at writing posts more than once a week, and about something other than being an occasional blogger. Topics soon to come:

Cheap Moving
Starting My New Job
(maybe) Another Book Review
....and I'll think of other fun stuff as I go along....

In my defense though...in the last week I have been offered a job, accepted it, and moved! :)

Another Unintentional Hiatus!!!

Crap! It's been forever, and there has definitely been some stuff going on. Here's the rundown....I have a job and am moving to Ohio in t-minus 4 days! I took an impromptu trip up to Ohio a couple weeks ago, managed to schedule a couple job interviews while I was there, and now here I am, moving up two weeks early! I could not be more thrilled.  :)

Since I have such a small amount of stuff to move, I'm going to stuff as much junk in my car as I can and ship the rest UPS. Sounds weird? It's actually surprisingly cheap! I checked out a couple moving companies (who shall remain nameless!) who teased me with online quotes as low at $250. And then when I spoke to an actual person, they said they'd be happy to do it for $1100...um, no thanks! And just so you know, I'm not shipping more than 15 small UHaul boxes. And the people who quoted me $1100 said they would show up with a truck that I had to load, they would drive it to Ohio, and then I had to be around to unload it. Um, UPS drops it at your door thank you very much. Sigh. So, UPS it is!
